The Shanghai Race Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Hibbard as Official Private Guide for The Shanghai Race Club Tour,  a heritage tour of central Shanghai which takes visiting members on an enchanting journey, much on foot, from the original Shanghai Race Club building to the Bund and back again, visiting areas where race club luminaries of yesteryear, including Sir Victor Sassoon, Eric Moller, the Toeg family and Bertie Burkill made their mark on the city.

Peter Hibbard is widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on Shanghai history through his extensive research and writing. Peters captivating books, The Bund Shanghai, Odyssey’s Guide to Beijing and Shanghai (Shanghai section)  and those on the history of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited and on Shanghai’s iconic Peace Hotel are famous for revealing new truths about the City’s illustrious past with an academic’s eye and a story tellers twist.

Peter’s reputation truly precedes him, and has lead to him becoming one of the most sought after private guides in China for visiting dignitaries and celebrities. He holds the prestigious position of President of The Royal Asiatic Society China in Shanghai and was awarded an MBE for his services to heritage conservation in Shanghai in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List.
