We do love tales of the Jazz Age of Shanghai history, back when the city was rife with life – gangsters, business men, and expats putting on the ritz. And now, with the Shanghai Race Club celebrating its 75th anniversary, we get to re-experience a bit of the glamor of yore.
The Ascot of 1930s Shanghai was undoubtably The Shanghai Race Club: a place to be seen for socialites, ladies in big hats on the arms of dodgy diplomats, and flush local businessmen. In celebration of the club’s 75th Anniversary this year, the Race Club is launching a rather snazzy new board game. It features the landmark properties of famed Shanghai gamblers such as businessman Sasson, who even owned his own horses, and comes in a hige cigar box reminiscent of the city’s old gentlemen’s clubs. The game revolves around a six-horse race that players bet on, based on knowledge acquired through “tips” cards. It should definitely be played with a few gin and tonics.
